Why does a business say "near [town]"?

For: all plans

On Find Businesses, some businesses show a small near label, for example "near Austin, TX".

It means the business is just outside the town or town you searched, past its boundary. For a few towns, the area is the whole county: a search for Dublin covers County Dublin.

You see these for two reasons:

  • The search looks around the town you searched. It covers the area around the town, so it can find businesses just across the line.
  • Your search was wide. When a search finds only a few businesses, Explaindio looks a little farther out. Businesses it found there are in nearby towns.

A business inside the town, even in one of its districts (like Croydon, in London), isn't marked near.

These are real local businesses. You can make a sample for them and contact them like any other.

Want only businesses in one town? Search for that town by name, like "Round Rock, TX".
